For me GIST is self- realizations, exploration of truth (truth about ourselves and others), a journey from learn to un-learn and sometimes re-learn. One of my trainer once said during the ToT (training of trainers) that if someone want to learn “one must begin with emptying one’s cup”. By empting my cup I started makes room for new experiences in my life instead of allowing myself to repeat old patterns. In the process of unlearning and letting go, I have experienced some dramatic changes in several areas like I noticed beauty in thing that I use to take for granted. Connected my-self to what actually going on around me (there was another story behind different Tuk Tuk drivers teach me why I doesn’t remember my way ) I had a deeper experience of sounds, smells, feelings and even merging my inner-self and the outer world.
I joined GIST with understanding that it will enhance my knowledge and expertise and help for my career building. But after joining GIST I realize that it’s more than academic knowledge and experience i.e. traveling around different countries, arrange logistics, connecting with different people, organize meetings and interviews understand different norms and traditions. GIST open up my mind and I feel my feet on ground, gratitude (especially to contacts who help me a lot), peace, state of awareness something easy to achieve than I realize. Stability is key to success and achieve our goals, don't give up keep trying we achieved what we want. What I learn during APLP 1st semester I implement and practically experience in my 2nd semester really a theory into practice (I am a believer of learning by doing). We learn importance of connections, contacts, relationships, etc during our classes but I practically realize its advantage during my field study. I always saying that training (learning ) is a two-way process where both trainer and trainee both learn from each and other ,same in GIST I believe that we six GISTers (and Chacha La) learn and unlearn so many things.
